Multi Level Marketing developed a stigma because of the minority of
companies that were truly pyramid schemes. Not unlike Bernie Maddow
and his financial investments.

The other way the MLM concept gets a visceral reaction in some people
is their particular experiences with trying it out themselves. 90%
tend not to be successful at MLM due primarily to doing it all wrong
by being too aggressive in pitching the products and opportunity to
all their friends and family, getting rejected over and over,
quitting and then blaming their lack of success on the product or
just the concept of multi-level marketing itself.

There has been a newer form of marketing that feeds into the
'rejection factor' in traditional network marketing that promotes
that you do not have to "bug family and friends" and instead, have
them become attracted to you rather than you chasing them.
This is called Attraction Marketing and is targeted towards people
in MLM who have not had success doing it the "old school" way.

Attraction Marketing has its merits because regardless of what you
call your system, the sales process still involves getting people
to like you, to develop rapport before you go for the close.

Relationships must be formed before you start the "selling
process". Attraction Marketing teaches you how to back off the
"point of sale" approach, slow down and focus on branding yourself
as a knowledgeable, useful person whom prospects can get to know
and trust before you bring up your product or business opportunity.

Online Attraction Marketing systems are on the internet and are
focused on the struggles of existing network marketers. It is a
good way however to market yourself online because basically, you
are prospecting to strangers on the internet for the most part and
therefore, you certainly should try to develop a relationship
before you start pitching products and business opportunities.

Ideally, online Attraction Marketing and offline traditional
marketing should be done simultaneously since more and more people
are online, so it could not hurt your marketing efforts to learn
how to effectively market online.

The rules for networking on social media sites like Facebook are the same with the attraction marketing model. Its usually explained using the "party analogy". You wouldn't go to a party, meet someone brand new and ask them to marry you before you even started dating. Its the same on social media sites and with prospecting cold market leads in MLM.

People have to go through the process of getting to know you, like you and trust you. This process can sometimes happen quickly, but it must happen on some form. Skipping these steps is a sure way to get rejected. In fact its probably guaranteed. So its not a surprise that one would get rejected while starting out in MLM without the proper training and understanding of these concepts.

Its unfortunate that people who reject MLM are missing out on its lucrative rewards for those that stick with it. First impressions tend to last. If you're over your visceral reaction and would like to take another crack at MLM, there are newer techniques out there that address the rejection factors.

Then again, perhaps your direct sponsor was just not a very good leader and you were on your own. Today is a good day to start another try at MLM with the right leader this time!
